Bochy Makes Egregious Homer Picks

Bruce Bochy

It seems almost every year the manager of the NL all star team does something either stupid or controversial. A few years ago it was Tony La Russa opting not to use his guy Albert Pujols in a pinch hit situation in the last inning of a very close game, instead using Nationals 1B Dmitri freakin’ Young. Last year it was Charlie Manuel’s controversial decision to name utilityman extraordinaire Omar Infante to the All Star team … well, this year it’s Bruce Bochy putting two of his own guys Tim Lincecum & Ryan Vogelsong on the roster, even though there are about 3-4 others more deserving candidates. This is the most egregious of the recent bad decisions by the NL All Star manager, in my opinion. Vogelsong is a close pick. He’s 6-1 with a 2.13 ERA, which would rank second in the NL, if he had the eligible innings pitched … but he doesn’t have the eligible innings pitched, so he’s taking up a spot of guys who’ve had almost as good ERAs in more games. Vogelsong’s ERA could easily be worse than those guys had he pitched the same amount of games. Tim Lincecum is an all star with a losing record. Sure, his 3.14 ERA is all star worthy, but a pitcher with a losing record, Lincecum is 6-7, should never be an all star. Bochy is giving his guys a break here, when more worthy guys (and there are plenty of ‘em) like Tommy Hanson, Kyle Lohse & Ian Kennedy are snubbed. That’s a joke.

Carl Edwards only got 3 weeks probation, which basically means he’s not being punished. No suspension, no fine, no points deduction or anything. NASCAR screws something up horribly once again.

13 Things That College Has Taught Me

Note: I know that all 13 of these things are negative. I intended them to be that way because well, I’m a natural born pessimist. There have been a few sporadic fun moments sprinkled here and there through my seven & a half semesters of college… however, it’s usually the bad things we dwell on. One thing is for certain, I’ve learned a lot about the world in this time. We’re pretty much doomed.

There are in no particular order:

1. Don’t Live With Your Best Friend:

They tell you this before you even go into college that you shouldn’t live with your best friend. Nobody ever listens to the advice and for a lot of us we unfortunately learn the lesson. I’ve lost two really good friends from living with them. However, I have managed to live with another great friend now for two years without a single problem and a lot of fun… so it just depends on how easy going the person is. For most though I definitely wouldn’t consider living with your best friend or good friends.

2. Presidents Will Screw You Over:

The President of UCA when I came here and for my first 2 years here was Lu Hardin … he severely screwed up the school and was forced to resign when it was found out he illegally gave himself a raise and forged names in the process. Our new President Allen Meadors definitely seems and in general acts and looks like a crook. He’s made some dumbass comments and decisions in his first year at UCA, can’t wait to see what kind of scandal he brings to this institution.

3. People Can’t Take Criticism:

It seems that nobody in college can take criticism about their work. It’s quite hypocritical in fact as many of the departments: writing, theater, journalism, film, etc. all teach constructive criticism… but, the moment you give any negative criticism to people in any of those departments (especially theater & writing) that bitch and bicker and act like little babies. I don’t know how many letters to the editor I’ve received from play reviews at The Echo from pissed off people who didn’t agree with my criticism. It seems these departments need to cut down on their egos a little bit. You’ll never make it in the real world without learning to accept criticism.

4. People Love Football More Than Any Other Sport:

Okay, I’ll admit I knew this one before I came to college, but I don’t think that I knew the full extent of it until I began attending UCA sporting events, and as sports editor of the school newspaper for five consecutive semesters I’ve seen quite a few. I love football. However, seeing as how baseball is my favorite sport and literally nobody shows up to see or support the UCA Bears baseball team it tends to get on my nerves slightly.

5. People Are Too Flaky:

People always seem to have more important things to do then whatever you want to… it usually doesn’t matter. It’s college, after all, everybody is busy… but, when you’re trying to get together a football game or another event and you just need one more person and they decline because they’re tired or a little sore or just don’t care to do something it affects the whole group and is needless to say irritating. People should stop flaking out so much.

6. There Are Too Many Idiots in the World:

This one really doesn’t need much explanation, just watch the way most people act and treat each other most of the time.

7. People Judge Without Trying:

I absolutely hate when people judge stuff without trying it first. I try my best to not do this, but it seems other people are perfectly fine with snap judgements of things. For instance, I always hear two common things: “NASCAR sucks” & “country music sucks” … however, the people who say these things have never truly given either the time of day to make an informative opinion.

8. Education Is Too Expensive:

Anyone who is in college understands this. I’ll be so far in debt from student loans by the time I get out of school. Paying close to $12,000 a year for education is ridiculous, no wonder so many people don’t go to college, they probably can’t afford it.

9. People Will Disappoint You More Often Than Not:

This one is pretty similar to the people flaking out one. I trusted most of the people I knew before college began. It seems these days that I trust a rare few. I’ve been disappointed far too many times by people in these past four years.

10. Life is Hard, But We Should Fix It Instead of Just Getting Over It

It’s pretty obvious that life is hard and it probably should be. However, most people seem to be fine with mediocrity and don’t seem to want to take the time to make the world a better place.

11. Presidents will choose themselves over their students

This one stems from the fact that President Meadors at UCA had six tvs with satellite service installed and an expensive phone line installed in the “President’s Mansion” last semester, but the school fails to have proper working things for student like the wireless Internet.

12. High School Drama Bleeds Into College

People always say I can’t wait to get out of high school and leave all that drama behind. Guess what a lot of people do the same damn thing in college. I have to deal with it everyday from many, many people. People who care greatly about unimportant bullshit and don’t give a damn about the important things in life.

13. Just Because You’re In College Doesn’t Mean You’re Smart

I always thought that college students were the cream of the crop when it came to smarts, but I’ve realized recently that many (if not the majority) of college students are ignorant and dumb and don’t really want to take the time to learn anything. A lot of these people have no business being in college if they don’t know what certain words mean or how to pronounce them and other facts that the average fifth grader should know. You should see some of the idiots I have to deal with on a daily basis.

Carl Edwards gets payback on Brad Keselowski following an incident earlier in today’s Sprint Cup race from Atlanta Motor Speedway. Edwards could’ve seriously hurt Keselowski or fans as Keselowski’s car got airborne and hit the wall. NASCAR seriously needs to suspend Edwards for the race at Bristol in two weeks to teach him a little lesson.
